Framewerx’s Managed IT Services team performed a seamless transition of 1000 mailboxes from an On-premise Exchange to a Hybrid Exchange. While the client continued normal business operations, the team completed the migration of the mailboxes in the background. With no delays or blocks, they successfully migrated all 1000 mailboxes to the hybrid exchange.
On-premise vs. Hybrid exchange
On-premises Exchange
Is a deployment model where the Exchange server infrastructure is located and managed within a businesses own data center. The business has full control over the hardware, software, and configuration of the Exchange environment. As well, they are responsible for tasks such as server maintenance, updates, security, and data backup. On-premises Exchange is typically chosen by businesses that want total control over their email infrastructure (and have an in-house IT team to manage it).
Hybrid Exchange
Is a deployment model that combines the use of both on-premises Exchange and Exchange Online, which is part of Microsoft 365 cloud services. This allows organizations to integrate their on-premises Exchange environment with Exchange Online, creating a unified messaging and collaboration platform.
Why hybrid exchange?
Coexistence and migration flexibility
Businesses can have a seamless coexistence between their on-premises Exchange infrastructure and Exchange Online. Users can be split between on-premises and cloud mailboxes while maintaining a single Global Address List (GAL) and sharing calendar availability. Now, businesses can migrate mailboxes from on-premises to the cloud gradually. Some users can be moved to the cloud while others remain on-premises depending on the individual needs
Scalability and resilience
Hybrid Exchange offers the scalability benefits of the cloud by leveraging Exchange Online’s infrastructure to handle peak loads or provide high availability and disaster recovery. This setup can offload some of the infrastructure management responsibilities from the businesses in-house IT team, or save costs if your IT is being co-managed
Exchange Online features
By adopting a hybrid deployment, organizations can leverage additional features and services provided by Exchange Online, such as Advanced Threat Protection, Data Loss Prevention, and eDiscovery.
